About me

I trained at the Manchester Alexander Technique Training School (MATTS), where I completed a 3 year full time course to qualify as an Alexander technique teacher. I'm a member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT).

Before coming to the technique, I was a professional Musican, working as a Jazz pianist and also as musical director for Holland America Cruise Line and Circus Benneweis in Denmark.

Whilst working in the Caribbean, I found myself overnight with crippling arm pain and no longer able to play piano. After seeking medical help from everywhere I could, which had no effect, I realised that I would need to work out what I had done to cause the problem and try to reverse the damage. The Alexander technique gave me not only the ability to manage my arm condition but also brought relief to arthritis in my knees and a slipped disc in my back (I REALLY needed the Alexander technique!!)

Today I maintain my musical career by lecturing in a College, teaching piano and music privately and playing the Sousaphone! I also work with musicians and music students with the Alexander technique to help them avoid injury, improve their performance and maintain their enjoyment of making music.

My first hand experience of many of the physical problems that bring people to the technique also gives me insight when teaching.

I currently teach from my home in Fallowfield, at the Royal Northern College of Music and as an assistant teacher at both the Manchester Alexander Technique Training school and Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU).

I hold a current enhanced CRB certificate and full insurance.
